We were given a great welcome in a fantastic setting at Fullerians RFC and following a few minutes' silence to mark Remembrance Sunday, beautifully observed by all present, the boys warmed up keen to get the game underway.
There was a definite winter chill to the air thanks to the strong wind, which was to prove influential in the game that followed. For the first half Bank had an uphill struggle playing into the wind; cold hands and good defence from the opposition meant getting into the running game proved difficult, resulting in going in to the break trailing by three tries. In the second half, with the wind behind them, they made more use of the kicking game and a chip and chase grounded just short of the dead ball line gave them their first try. Some good work by the forwards set up the second try soon after, creating an overlap to allow a short dart for the line to bring them back within reach of the opposition.
Fullerians’ power proved too much, however, and, despite some heroic tackling, the Bank boys were unable to prevent three further scores against them. They did manage one more try, a fantastic run down the wing, to bring a final score of 19:36. Being such a physical game meant we lost some players to injury and we should give credit and thanks to those boys from Fullerians who stepped into the breach, playing with great determination against their own teammates!
