Chairman’s letter

Dear Friends and Members,

After a rare but nevertheless relaxing weekend off for all the players (golf, skiing or Christmas shopping ??) …. we all enjoyed two entertaining games at home on Saturday 25 November on a brilliant fresh sunny winter’s afternoon.

The Sovereigns XV played Thamesians Spartans XV and the 1st XV took on Saracens Amateurs.

The Sovereigns XV were against a tough Thamesians side and were only 3-0 up at half time. After a motivating half time talk, they reshaped themselves with two early well worked tries from hard forward graft and some excellent back play. They kept their composure and ended up with a well-deserved 24-8 victory. Well done to one and all for their determination and resilience.

The 1st XV were back in their normal match winning groove. From the whistle, there were some outstanding off loads and lose play passing by all 15 players. The backs were a constant threat, always looking for an opportunity and worked really well together. The forwards set play, open play and support play were very impressive, something which Saracens just couldn’t cope with  … the end result being an emphatic 73-27 win to keep the Bank second in the Herts/Middx 1 League.

Many congratulations to both teams for some entertaining positive rugby.

On a separate note, I’d like to pass on the Club’s sincere thanks to Simon Devis (Coach) and the Bank Sports Club who recently secured the purchase of two new mobile floodlights, which will be on site quite soon. Over the last few months, Simon has been busy behind the scenes securing RFU and Bank Sports Club grants to provide these much-needed new lights. Lots of admin, forms and arm twisting by Simon – so very many thanks on behalf of everyone for this excellent new training facility.
