At Bank of England RFC we've always introduced boys and girls to rugby in a progressive and safe way, starting with tag (non-contact) rugby for Under- 7 and Under-8 children and then gradually introducing contact from Under-9 onwards.
We realise that contact isn't for everyone, though, and so we are launching mixed tag rugby sessions for Under-9, Under-10 and Under-11 as well. We're very excited to be the first club in the area to offer primary aged children the choice of contact or non-contact rugby.
You don't need to be a member of the Bank of England Sports Club to play rugby with us; we're a friendly local club that pulls in players from all over SW London. BOERFC enjoys some of the best pitches and facilities in South West London and so remains an ideal location at which to make a start in the game.
Home training sessions are held at the Bank of England Sports Club, Roehampton Lane. For the mixed tag squad these are held on a Sunday from 11.15 to 12.45. Ideally players should arrive 10 to 15 minutes beforehand, to put on boots etc. Note that sessions may finish early in the event of inclement weather!
It is not essential for a player to have specialist kit for the start of the season. For example, T-shirts, shorts/tracksuit (no zips, please!) and trainers are perfectly suitable for the first few sessions.
Recruitment ‘No coaches, no helpers, no Mini Rugby!’
Everyone involved in Mini Rugby is an unpaid volunteer. For the coming season our mixed tag squad would welcome new volunteers. The club actively encourages coaches to gain relevant RFU qualifications and can provide help and support with this.
